john boehner wants to find common ground. and even sean hannity is trying to shift to the middle. >> we have to get rid of the immigration issue all together. it's simple. you control the border first. you create a pathway for those that are here. you don't say you have to go home. and that's a position i have evolved on. because you know what, it's got to be resolved. the majority of people here, some have criminal records, you can send them home. but if they are law-abiding, kids are born here, first secure the border, pathway to citizenship, done. whatever little penalties you want to put in there. then it's done. >> pathway to citizenship, done. where was all this talk before the election? you see this is all about getting votes. it's not coming from the heart. reforming immigration policy is a huge risk for the republicans. they could alienate their base. there's no guarantee they will win the latino vote in the long run. let's turn to ruy teixeira. great to have you with us. >> delighted to be here. >> you predicted thi

republicans thus far said no to the tax increase, although john boehner has said more revenue. should republicans in congress be afraid of a tea party primary if they support a deal that includes tax increases? >> you know, i'm not going to, i'm not going to talk about primaries now because we're just three or four days away from this last election and next one is, obviously, two years away. we have this fiscal cliff to deal with and what i hope is that somehow we can find some common ground and a winning solution for all americans. and, you know, everybody wants to talk about tax increases. well, you know, why don't we close some of these loopholes so that these corporations, ge, apple, others, you know, pay taxes here in this country. because that would bring in some revenue. so, there's other ways to bring revenue instead of just taxing the citizens across this country. the problem is that eventually you run out of other people's money. you can tax people all you want, but, eventually, they're going to pay all their money to taxes and there's going to be no more money. we ha

congressman van hollen, john boehner offered a compromise this week where he said yes, i am willing to put more revenue on the table but through closing deductions, ending loopholes, not through raising rates. can you accept a compromise as part of this whole deal that doesn't raise the bush tax rate on the wealthy? >> well, here is the issue. how much revenue are we going to generate part of a balanced package? i take my lead on this from simpson-bowles and their framework. in their framework, they assume the amount of revenue as if you started tax reform from a 3% rate. that is part -- 39% rate. that's part of their built-in assumption. i am all for doing tax reform. the issue is from what starting point. the simpson-bowles starting point which assumes the revenue from 39% is the right way to go to get the mix that they got in hitting their deficit reduction target. but look, if what the speaker boehner was saying is that he is truly willing to get what we consider congressional budget office revenue, we can work with one another. if what he is saying is what a lot of republicans use
